6 cheaper alternatives for nails, skin & hair you must know - buy smarter, pay less!

We don't always want to or have to buy the most expensive product for everything. Smart solutions save us money without us having to sacrifice anything. Many products have good or even better alternatives. As is well known, some inexpensive products often perform better in tests than expensive comparable products.

Here are some inspirations for cheaper alternatives in cosmetics you should know

Chanel perfume
Vitamin C skincare
Nail polish
Lipstick

Professional haircare?

John Frieda* is the drugstore product of choice. The brand has been around for years and so has the enthusiasm from customers. It really works! So it doesn't always have to be the professional hair care product from the hairdresser's shop.

Original Chanel

Instead of the very expensive Chanel perfume, you can use Chanel body spray/body mist*. It's a little less intense. This may appeal to some, it's a compromise for others. In any case, you still have a noble luxury product, just at a lower price. Of course, this also works with other brands 😉

Vitamin C skincare

Here in particular there is an insanely large abundance of products. Skinceuticals is one of the most well-known brands, but also one of the more expensive. Timeless* is a proven alternative when it comes to highly concentrated vitamin C products and a great overall formulation, which are often a little more expensive than those with a lower concentration. You can find it on Amazon*.

Nail polish

If you want to save on doing your nails, you can try this variant. A good top coat makes the difference. Essie Top coat* has proven itself here.

Complement it with the Essence Color nail polish* from the drugstore. This combo works great together. Interestingly, I also tested the Essie top coat with a more pricey OPI color polish and didn't get a very long-lasting result. So Essence color nail polish is the winner here when it comes to affordable yet durable nail polish. If you don't want to rely entirely on the minimal version, you can use a base coat as the next step to extend the durability. Tip: Do not apply lotion to your hands before coloring your nails. The nails should be as fat-free as possible, so the polish will last longer. Rather go over the nails again with disinfection or other alcohol before doing your nails.

Lipstick

According to Stiftung Warentest, the lipstick from Chanel, among others, was not recommended. Whereas satisfactory results (and among the winners) were shown with L`Òreal, DM Alverde and Essence*. So you can save yourself the expensive version :-)

Shaving foam

Look at the prices per 100 ml in the store. Men`s shaving foam* (e.g. Wilkinson) does the same thing as the one for us women but costs only about half per 100 ml. It's worth taking that closer look.
